Who we are

Barakah Emporium Inc. operates barakahemporium.com, an online store based in Ontario, Canada. This policy explains how personal information is collected, used and shared when you browse our store, make a purchase, use a customer account or contact us. Personal information is information that identifies you or can reasonably be linked to you.

Information collected and its sources

Depending on how you use the store, we and our service providers process:

  • Contact and delivery information: your name, email address, phone number, billing and shipping addresses, and delivery instructions you provide.
  • Order and payment information: purchased items, order history, transaction totals, payment status, returns and exchanges. Payment details are processed through the payment service you select at checkout, including Shopify Payments and Shop Pay where available.
  • Account information: information used for your Shopify-hosted customer sign-in, profile, addresses and order history.
  • Support information: messages, order references and any photographs or other information you choose to provide when asking for help.
  • Device and activity information: IP address, browser and device details, pages and products viewed, shopping activity, and information collected through cookies and similar technologies.
  • Marketing preferences: whether you subscribe to or unsubscribe from news and offers.

Information comes directly from you, automatically from your interaction with the store, and from providers that help process payments, operate the store and deliver orders.

How information is used

We use information to process and deliver orders; provide account access, order updates and customer support; handle returns and disputes; understand and improve the shopping experience; detect fraud and protect the store; and meet applicable recordkeeping and legal obligations.

We use order information to understand which products sell and where demand comes from, so we can plan inventory and improve our store.

If you choose to subscribe, we use your email address to send news and offers. You can unsubscribe using the link in a marketing email. Unsubscribing does not stop necessary order, account or support messages.

Service providers and disclosures

Our store runs on Shopify. Shopify processes information needed to host the store, support accounts and checkout, process payments, and provide store services. Learn more in the Shopify Consumer Privacy Policy and use the Shopify privacy portal for requests about Shopify's own processing.

We use ClickShip, Freightcom's connected shipping platform, and the carrier handling your shipment to arrange shipping and tracking. They may receive the contact, order and delivery information needed for those services. We do not provide customer names or delivery addresses to independent suppliers for direct fulfillment. We also use Shopify tools for messaging and store search, and Shogun for website functionality and activity measurement. Relevant providers may process contact, order or activity information for the services they perform.

Information may also be disclosed when you direct us to share it, when required by law or valid legal process, or as necessary to address fraud, disputes or the protection of legal rights.

Depending on the Shopify services enabled for the store, Shopify may use information about your interactions with our store, other merchants and Shopify to provide enhanced services, including personalization, store improvements and advertising-related features. Shopify explains its processing and available choices in its Consumer Privacy Policy and privacy portal linked above.

Cookies and activity measurement

Shopify and connected services use cookies and similar technologies for store operation, account and checkout functions, and activity measurement. Our current setup includes a Shogun app pixel and a Shogun analytics script embedded in the theme. Browser settings can block or remove cookies, although some store features may then work differently.

Some tracking-related disclosures may qualify as “sale,” “sharing” or “targeted advertising” under applicable privacy laws even without payment for a customer list. You can contact our Privacy contact to request applicable opt-outs or ask about our use of tracking technologies. Shopify’s privacy portal also provides choices about Shopify’s own processing. Browser cookie controls do not necessarily stop all data processing or replace a legal opt-out request.

Processing outside Canada

Shopify currently identifies the store's data hosting location as the United States. Shopify and other service providers may process information in other countries, where it may be subject to local laws and lawful access by authorities. Contact us with questions about service providers or cross-border processing.

Retention and security

We retain personal information for the purposes described in this policy, including fulfilling orders, supporting customer accounts, resolving disputes and meeting legal recordkeeping requirements. Retention depends on the type of record and the reason it is needed.

No online system can guarantee absolute security. Please do not send full payment card details or other unnecessary sensitive information in ordinary support messages.

When we download customer-data files for internal analysis of geographic demand and product sales, we use those copies internally, do not share them outside the business, and delete them once each analysis is finished. This does not mean that the original order, account, accounting, support, email or shipping-service records are deleted at that time, and does not override applicable recordkeeping requirements.

Your choices and privacy requests

You may contact us to ask about the personal information we hold about you, request access or correction, withdraw consent where applicable, or raise a privacy concern. Depending on your location and applicable law, you may also have rights to deletion, portability, restriction or objection to certain processing, and to opt out of certain advertising uses. These rights can be subject to exceptions, including information that must be retained for legal reasons.

We may need reasonable information to verify your identity before responding. If we cannot fulfill a request, we will explain the applicable reason. You may also raise a concern with the relevant privacy regulator, including the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or an applicable provincial authority.

Children and third-party links

If you believe a child has supplied personal information to us, please contact us so we can review the situation. Other websites reached through links from our store have their own privacy practices; review their notices before providing information.

Changes and contact

We will update this policy when our practices change and indicate the effective date of the revised version. We will provide additional notice or seek consent where required.
